O ex-Screaming Trees já há muito não é tão associado à sua (ótima) ex-banda, pois é daqueles nomes ultraprodutivos de inúmeras facetas e parcerias. Disco após disco, ataca em diversos estilos e marcou seu nome nesta década em obras como "Blues Funeral" (2012), parcerias com Duke Garwood e Isobel Campbelle, e aparecendo ao lado de artistas como QOTSA, Earth, Neko Case e até o português Dead Combo.

Não exageraríamos ao dizer que "Somebody's Knocking" é de seus melhores momentos no período:

MÚSICA DA DÉCADA: O ANO DE 2012

Neste final de década, fizemos um panorama de 2010 e 2011. 2013 e 2015 tiveram uma espécie de "best of" mais seguimentado, e ainda pretendemos voltar a eles e (re)descobrir tudo que há neles. 2014, 2016, 2017 e 2018 foram muito bem contemplados em nossas tradicionais listas. E eis que 2012 tinha ficado de fora... até agora.

Ano ultraprodutivo, comparável a este próprio 2019 que nos deixa, 2012 deixou saudades pela alta qualidade de seus lançamentos:

HORS CONCOURS

Duas obras supremas dividiram o ano vitorioso, e diríamos que improváveis: a obra-prima do SWANS, "The Seer", e o igualmente perturbador "Bish Bosch" de SCOTT WALKER. Improváveis pois, àquela altura, não era esperado um lançamento do Swans, tampouco nessa magnitude. Do outro lado, Walker já havia lançado dois épicos experimentais, "Tilt" (1995) e "The Drift" (2006), e a distância entre eles não permitia prever qual seria, ou quando se daria, o próximo passo. E veio com maestria.

Estamos em 2019, e são dois discos essenciais e, não á toa, seguidos de dois épicos tão potentes e originais quanto: "To Be Kind" (2014) e "Soused" (2014). Neste âmbito experimental e obscuro, podemos dizer que pautaram a década.

Numa menção honrosa, Mats Gustafsson também começava a abrir os caminhos do The Thing, da Fire! e da Fire! Orchestra, que a partir dali teriam lançamentos importantes em todos os demais anos seguintes. Em 2012, duas preciosidades de intensidade e beleza: "The Cherry Thing", com ninguém menos que Neneh Cherry nos vocais, e "In The Mouth - A Hand" ao lado do guitarrista Oren Ambarchi.

NOSSOS FAVORITOS

O Heavy Metal, sempre presente em nosso blog, teve um ano novamente cheio, dominado pelo essencial "Yellow And Green" do BARONESS. Nada atrás, nomes como CONVERGE, DEFTONES, IHSAHN, NAPALM DEATH e GOJIRA lançaram discos fundamentais em suas carreiras.

Ano movimentado para a música pesada, que foi desde o gothic de Moonspell e Paradise Lost, ao punk visceral de Gaza e OFF!, o prog de Behold The Arctopus e Dysrhythmia, o avant garde de Diablo Swing Orchestra e Sigh, o djent de Meshuggah e Periphery e a intensidade de Neurosis e do épico "Advaitic Songs" do OM.

Em outras áreas, vimos El-P ("Cancer For Cure") e KILLER MIKE ("RAP Music") atingirem um nível de originalidade que não à toa culminaria no projeto Run The Jewels a partir do ano seguinte. O DEATH GRIPS, na mesma toada, lançava dois discos no mesmo ano e ditaria as regras da insanidade num estilo que superou o hip hop, transbordando para o mais torto rock / industrial.

Nomes como Actress, Andy Stott, Animal Collective, Apollo 440, Ariel Pink, Flying Lotus, Gonjasufi, Pepe Deluxe e o mestre Squarepusher abrilhantaram um 2012 eletrônico e rico em ambientações, dividindo a cena independente com clássicos como FIONA APPLE, GY!BE, MUSE, até trabalhos maduros de outros mais novatos como TAME IMPALA e o sensacional "Synthetica" do METRIC.

Por fim, o classic rock propriamente dito de Beach Boys, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Leonard Cohen, Neil Young e, acima de tudo, PATTI SMITH e RUSH, teve tempo de encontrar ainda nomes como The Cult, Europe, Dead Can Dance, Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth), Van Halen (!) e até mesmo Jimmy Cliff! Que ano!
